COME FOLLOW ME
“Come follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”

What is a Come Follow Me Tour?
Northeast Taiwan Christian Association (NETCA) hosts an annual Come Follow Me (CFM) trip which is an international, intercultural, and language exchange outreach and mentorship program. Each year about twenty Taiwanese youth and children apply for this special opportunity. If the applicant is chosen by NETCA they are enrolled in a six-month training course that starts in the January that precedes the trip in late July through mid-August. The six-month training program teaches the youth how to lead an Asian Bible School, primarily in an American church setting in the U.S. for English-speaking American children from grades 1–6.
CFM began in Taiwan in 2007 by Richard and Jessie Roberts, and has trained over 200 Taiwanese young people that have led Asian Bible Schools on ten different CFM trips. CFM also takes each year’s teams to fun places like Disney World, Grand Canyon, New York City, Niagara Falls, Alaska, Yellowstone Park etc.
What is an Asian Bible School
An Asian Bible School or ABS is a specially designed summer school held in American churches. An ABS aims to inspire mostly Taiwanese and American children and youth to interact with people their age from other nations, cultures, backgrounds and languages. An ABS not only provides a safe space for practical skills training, but also, for important emotional and spiritual lessons like patience, understanding, compassion, respect, honesty, self-control, gratitude, courage, forgiveness, blessing and humility.
Students who are accepted and who pass the six-month “Come Follow Me Training Course” held in Taiwan will journey to America to host and two Asian Bible Schools. These ABS’ flow very much like a summer English camp in Taiwan or a summer VBS or church camp in America. American churches always provide safe places to host our ABS. Each ABS is held Wednesday through Sunday from 9am until 4 pm. Each camp day starts out with a general assembly for all the American kids and Taiwanese youth to review the day before and prepare the students for that day’s expectations. Language games, character building exercises, Q&A and prizes are also included in the General Assembly.
After the General Assembly the kids break into four one-hour classes and rotate every hour to another class. The classes taught are:
Godly Character, Mandarin & Mission
Asian Art & Calligraphy
Asian Praise Music
Asian Games
The young Taiwanese teachers give each American child a Chinese name, and begin to teach the four subjects while teaching the Chinese language at the same time. Again, each class offers games, competitions, and awards. When ABS is completed the American children will be able to speak a few bible verses in Chinese and sing some praise songs in Chinese. They will also know how to use a calligraphy brush to write their Chinese name, Jesus loves you, God bless you, how are you, what is your name, where are you from, mountain, Sun, Moon and how to count to ten in Chinese etc. In the process the youth from Taiwan also have to use their English skills to communicate with the American children.
ABS is one of the greatest opportunities for children and youth to prepare for local and / or world interactions. In their lifetime Artificial Intelligence or AI I will drive them to communicate globally and understand their world in a new and exciting way. Now is the time to start learning skills, understanding cultures and speaking multiple languages. This opportunity also offers a safe environment for your young ones within a trusted church setting both in Taiwan and America where there are leaders who care deeply about the safety and the mental, emotional and spiritual growth of your children.
How are Taiwan’s Youth Trained?
After an applicant is accepted into the CFM program the applicant or the parent / guardian will be asked to join our 2026 CFM group which will be created using the LINE app. Once they have joined the LINE group we will continue to communicate each next step of the training process. However it will look something like this: There will be one meeting in mid-January, one meeting in late February, two meetings in March, two meetings in April, three meetings in May and four meetings in June and three meetings in July. The trip to America in 2026 will most likely depart July 20th and return around April 14, 2026. Most all meetings will be on Sunday mornings.
January, February and March meetings will be about setting the vision, obtaining passports, and team building exercises. All students must develop a strong friendship with each other and with the leadership before departing to the USA.
April and May will be about learning how to be a teacher of the classes and the Chinese language to American children. We will also practice doing some small events on March 29 and April 5 while still in Taiwan.
At the end of May and all of June we will be focused on fundraising as a group, and everyone much participate.
If your child is involved in other activities where they cannot attend the practice sessions Sunday mornings it will be difficult for them to be a part of the team. Please consider this before applying for this special six-month activity. We need all of the Taiwanese youth to be committed to the team and the meetings.
Whoever is in the LINE group will be constantly informed of every next step, but please make sure your young one’s Sunday mornings are free when there is a meeting. We will eventually give you the exact Sundays that we will meet.
What does NETCA Hope to Accomplish On this Trip
The Taiwan churches nor the American churches nor the CFM committee leaders place any mandatory expectations on child, youth, adult or any donor or any other churches to make decisions that they are not comfortable with. No one is manipulated or brainwashed during the entire activity. The entire trip is designed to locate a safe international environment, with an engaging cross-cultural experience and a challenging language exchange that also fosters practical skill-building and healthy emotional and spiritual lessons like patience, understanding, compassion, respect, honesty, self-control, gratitude, courage, repentance, forgiveness, blessing and humility. We hope that both, the Taiwanese youth and the young American children will grow in all of these things.
Because our organization is a Christian organization we are always happy when someone else knows, likes and accepts Jesus as we do, however that is not mandatory for your young one to be on the 2026 CFM team.
How Much Does it Cost? & How do we Pay for It?
The approximate cost for one person to join a three week trip similar to this and to go to as many places and to learn the things they will learn one could expect to pay about $120000 to $150000 per person. However, because we are doing this trip as a church and among churches there is lots of charity. Most of times churches in the States provide places for us to sleep, and meals for us to eat. They also often give our teams donations along the way. This help from the churches knocks the cost down per person to about $100000 each. Here’s is what the that $100000 pays per person .
Plane tickets = 55% (summer costs of round trip tickets)
Van rentals = 20% (includes three vans, gas, insurance and tolls.)
Food = 15% (based on TWD 240 per meal for 21 days)
Entry Tickets = 5% (entry fees to parks and special events)
Donations = 3% (donations)
Incidentals = 2% (unexpected expenses)
However, because we are a church we want to be able to serve the community the best we can, so we do a lot of fundraising as a group and we ask the team members to do some personal fundraising. Here’s how:
We ask each team member to personally fundraise for their plane tickets which usually costs around $55000. We also teach them how to fundraise at our meetings. The first fundraiser we ask them to do is to save their Red Envelope money received at Lunar New Year holiday. We also ask the parents / guardians to let the whole family know their child is saving Red Envelope money for their. We also teach other ways to fundraise for their plane ticket. No matter how much a team member raises they still must attend the meetings.
The church in Taiwan raises the funds for the van rentals. Most of the time the church is able to complete that task, but there have been several years where the parents helped to do fundraising for that cost as well.
For the Food, entry tickets, donations and Incidentals the team will be fundraising every Sunday in June and July and even when we get to America we will continue to sell Christian T-shirts along our journey. We usually sell about 1000 shirts and the profit is enough to pay for the things listed at the beginning of this paragraph.
Finally, we have had some years when the fundraising was very difficult and others when it was very easy. One year a special donor surprised us and paid for everyone’s plane ticket. Another time all the funds for the vans was raised in one week. However there have been some hard times as well. The main thing is that we learn to trust that God will take care of everyone whether they are doing personal fundraising or group fundraising or church fundraising.
