Making faith tangible

Northeast Taiwan Christian Association--NETCA is a catalyst for bringing human, technological and financial resources together to serve the people of northeastern Taiwan under the headship of Christ and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Together, NETCA’s, leaders, congregations, interns and volunteers, share Good News, encourage salvation, endeavor to make disciples, start & sustain village churches, and he causes all things grow. He is the Lord of this harvest. He is Jesus. He is flipping this region!

In 2024 there are nearly 24 million inhabitants on Taiwan. About ninety percent follow Buddhism, Taoism, folk religions or follow no god. According to the Taiwan census of 2005 Christians made up only four percent of the population. However it is believed by many that in the last 14 years the percentage has possibly doubled especially in the bigger cities of Taipei, Taichung and Kaoshiung. However there are still many rural areas where the percentage drops below one percent. Northeastern Taiwan is one of those areas, but Jesus is doing great things here and that percentage is increasing!

This left-shoe-shaped island which sits 90 miles off the east coast of China belonged to God from the moment he created it in Genesis 1:9. All 14000 square miles and 24 million inhabitants are part of His creation, therefore the Holy Spirit inspired the apostle Paul to pen these words:

“This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:3-4 NIV

And again the the Holy Spirit reminds believers to pray for the salvation of souls in this scripture:

“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:35-38 NIV

NETCA’s prayer is, “Lord of the harvest, Jesus Christ, please send co-harvesters to northeastern Taiwan. This is your field. The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

In our region there are big and small villages. Some have a 1000 to 2000 residents while many others only have 100 to 300. NETCA aspires to start Christian conversations via small groups, camps, conferences, classes and churches in as many villages, big or small, as we have the resources to do so. We desperately hope to flood hearts with Good News. We long to see salvations. We make every effort to disciple those who believe. He makes it grow.

It is a massive undertaking to flip an entire region. It takes patience and kindness. It requires love and joy. Oh lord, we pray for more hands and feet to move into the nearby villages and share the gospel with their lives!

WOULD YOU PARTNER WITH NETCA?

There are four ways you can partner with NETCA.

  1. Prayer - Prayer is fuel for this ministry. The apostle John throughout his gospel and epistles repeatedly tells us that if we pray in his name (or as he would pray as in praying for his purposes) that we will receive what we have prayedf for. Our prayer focus is first and foremost for the lost, and then for discipleship. If you can’t come or if you can’t give, please consider becoming a prayer partner with NETCA’s staff, interns, and volunteers.

  2. Giving - Financial gifts are also fuel for this ministry. There is rent, utilities, contractor fees, transportation, church maintenance, supplies, curricula, donations, gifts, stipends, benevolence and more that NETCA pays out every month.

  3. Short-term Volunteerism - NETCA accepts volunteers for one, two and three-month stays usually from March through December. Volunteers receive an orientation when they arrive and then they get right to work in the ministry. NETCA provides dormitories and a list of things for you to do. NETCA also provides accountability for you and those who would send you, any necessary training, and a spiritual covering for the duration of your mission. Everything is done in Taiwan! Contact Richard Roberts for more information at: northeasttaiwan@gmail.com

  4. Middle and Long-term Missionary - Is God calling you or your family to cross-cultural missions? Could God be calling you to serve one year on the mission field with NETCA?  We have a four-month course taught through our local Taiwan Bible & Language Institute. It begins mid-September and ends in the third week of December. It’s goal is to teach you how to do ministry in this region, how to live in this culture, how to counter the various religious ideologies, and how to contextualize the scriptures so the locals understand most clearly. While learning you will also be working with a full-time missionary starting and / or sustaining a NETCA church plant, small group, camp, conference etc. After four months of training the next eight months will be spent doing hands-on ministry in northeastern Taiwan. You will lead small groups, church worship, children’s ministry, pray, cook, clean and more. You may still partner with another missionary or you may work on your own. There is opportunity to extend your time if the Lord calls you to do so. For more information contact Richard Roberts at northeasttaiwan@gmail.com
